Qatar Petroleum Signs US$19.2bn LNG shipbuilding deals
Qatar’s state-owned oil and gas company Qatar Petroleum has signed LNG shipbuilding deals with a combined value of more than US$19.23bn (£15.39bn) with three South Korean firms.
Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME), Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) and Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) were all selected in the deal.
The three firms will reserve significant LNG ship construction capacity for the Qatari company through to 2027.
Through the deal, Qatar Petroleum will secure more than 100 ships that will become part of its future LNG carrier fleet.
They will be deployed for its ongoing expansion projects in the North Field, the US, and in other regions.
